Each nation’s tongue bears the weight of its ancestors, its land, and its pride. To speak in the tongue of Skarn is to echo the howl of the wolf. To speak as Tharios is to carry the order of Houses. To speak as Shadura is to weave beauty into mourning.
Each dialect is a lineage of memory, born in the time after the Silence, when the Nine first found their footing and spread across the Awakened World. Alive, fierce, and unbroken.
The most learned among Shamans, Priests, High Priests, and Sorcerers could peer through these differences, guided by the ancestors and perhaps the gods themselves, toward fragile paths of understanding. In time, they learned to speak across the tense borders of nations, serving as interpreters in moments of war, peace, and fragile truce.
However, where the tongues of the Nine evolved through lineage and memory, the Nakarran Creed sought something very different.
To them, this fragmentation was division. Every dialect carried the weight of borders, blood, and pride, and so they sought to cleanse it. What they created was the Alltongue.
The Alltongue does not hear lineage. It hears only the hollow echo beneath. To the Creed, the wolf’s howl, the House’s order, the passion of Marukh, and the weavings of Shadura are fractures that represent barriers between peoples.
So they cut language to the bone, stripping away story and song, rite and remembrance, until only the Hollow roots remained. What endures is the Alltongue: syllables without memory, words without heritage, and a language of erasure and unmaking.
To the nations, it is desecration.
To the Creed, it is salvation.
The tool below allows you to explore both traditions. On one side, you can explore the languages of the Nine Nations, choosing subject, verbs, preposition, adjectives, and roots to form phrases that bear the weight of their ancestors.
On the other, you can speak in the Alltongue of the Nakarran Crusade, reducing the same phrases to their hollow cores — stripped of lineage, stripped of memory.
The Duravela (“Dura-vela,” The Enduring Story), is the oldest known script of the Awakened World, the written language of the Time Before. Thirty-six glyphs are known and studied by the most faithful scholars of the Nine.
In addition to the Duravela, is the Nalduravela, The Forgotten Story, an expanded set of the same script that even the most learned have failed to decipher. While the countless symbols and sigils that lie scattered across ruins, carved into stone and whispered in ritual and rite, continue to be recorded and studied, it is widely believed that they cannot be read but only awakened as gifts from the gods.
For those who walk in faith, the symbols are not merely read but felt, living conduits between meaning and power. The deeper one’s belief, the deeper their understanding, and the greater the strength the Nalduravela yields.
Some believe that faith alone unlocks the power of the Nalduravela, claiming they witnessed it in the whispers of an amethyst-eyed huntress of the Blackpines, the battle-hymns of a shaman and shieldmaiden of the Steppelands, the words of a huntress of the sands, or in the disappearance of the Dothemian king during his rising years.
If the Duravela is the body, and the Nalduravela is the soul. The first preserves language and lineage. The second moves through faith, will, and belief, the living current beneath word and world.
To the faithful, it is revelation.
To the Creed, proof of the Hollow’s reach.
To the rest of the Awakened World, it is both—sacred and dangerous, a tongue that answers only to those who believe.
All ambitious worlds have their languages. Constructed languages—or conlangs—are the beating hearts of worlds that feel truly alive. From Tolkien’s Quenya and Sindarin, to Star Trek’s Klingon, to Game of Thrones’ Dothraki and Valyrian, these tongues lend their worlds texture, rhythm, and truth.
I wanted to do the same here, but take it a step further. Rather than creating a single invented language, I set out to design a living linguistic ecosystem, where meaning shifts across borders and faiths. The dialects of the Nine Nations and the Alltongue, all exist in dialogue, each shaped by history, geography, and belief.
When I began creating the tongues of the Awakened World, I wanted them to be more than scattered names or aesthetic flourishes. Language, to me, is one of the deepest vessels of culture. It carries memory, faith, power, and fracture. To give each nation a voice meant treating language with a kind of near-scientific discipline: not just inventing words, but exploring how meaning evolves, diverges, and collapses.
Proto-Roots
I started with proto-roots: small, essential sounds tied to universal ideas like strength, flame, memory, hollow, wolf, dawn. These are the bedrock of every dialect. Nations bend them into their own forms, attaching endings or syllables that reflect their worldview. For example, DUR becomes “Duramhan” in Carnoth but “Duratus” in Tharios. The concept is shared, but the voice is not.
Adjectives
The next layer was adjectives. Descriptors like pale, silent, burning, forgotten. These are not random; they are the kinds of qualities cultures mark as sacred or cursed. They give texture and emotion. Calling someone “Pale Dura” or “Silent Ashra” already feels like a fragment of myth or epithet.
Connectors
To give these fragments structure, I added connectors, such as of, with, through, against, beyond, without. These are simple in form but profound in meaning: the way a culture links ideas reflects the way it sees the world. Skarn might privilege “with” (the wolf pack), while Tharios leans on “of” (possession, order). The connectors turn loose words into relationships.
The Alltongue
Against this complexity stands the Alltongue — the language of the Creed. Where nations build, the Creed erases. Their tongue cuts away lineage, strips adjectives, and collapses gods into the void. What remains are bare syllables without memory. To the nations, this is desecration. To the Creed, it is salvation.
Structure
Every phrase generated here follows the same ritual structure:
Subject + Verb + Preposition + Adjective + Root
The result is not meant to be everyday speech, but rather fragments of inscription, chant, or war cry.
Evolution
This is a 4.0 version of the system. Like a real language, it will evolve. Future iterations may add dialect-specific endings, archaic vs modern shifts, idioms, or even grammatical quirks that break the current structure.
Don't think of it as a dictionary, but a framework that aims to show how words can be born, bent, and stripped of heritage.
